DIY: Fun & Easy Birthday Card + Free PDF Tutorial

I got a call from my friend who needed a card for her friend’s upcoming birthday. My friend had an idea, but since she’s not a crafty type she asked me to make it for her.
The original card was found on Pinterest, created by Carol from Inky Fingers. Btw, she has so many wonderful ideas!
Unfortunately, there are no instructions on how to make this card. So I’ve got a little bit of challenge here in order to make the same.
Eventually, I did it, and here is my step-by-step tutorial for all of you who want to make this cute green birthday card. I made some cute birthday cards ideas earlier, but this one was something different for me.
I’ve made a free step-by-step PDF tutorial which you can download at the end of the post.
Supplies you’ll need:
- Two White Cardstocks
- Green Cardstock
- Red & Green Marker
- Black Liner Pen
- Scissors
- Paper Glue
Step-by-step instructions to create the card (See photos below):
Step #1 – Make the base of your card
Cut the card base, which is 12.5 cm x 17.5 cm or 5″ x 7″ when folded in half. Using a hole puncher you can draw round edges on the right side and cut it with a pair of scissors. (Tip: Any other rounded instrument will do for drawing the rounded edges.)
Step #2 – Cut a green cardstock
Dimensions for the green cardstock are 12 cm x 17 cm or 4.7″ x 6.6″. Again, cut both edges round on the right side of the green cardstock. Paper clippers can help with a better assessment so that the rounded edges match the edges of the card base.
Step #3 – Cut a white cardstock
You need a white cardstock for the middle of your card. Dimensions are 9 cm x 14 cm or 3.5″ x 5.5″. Once again, cut both edges round on the right side of the white cardstock.
Step #4 – Draw a pattern and write a note
First, glue all parts of the card together on the card base. Then, draw a pattern on the left side and write a birthday note.
Step #5 – Color your pattern
Using green and red markers color your pattern. And then use a black liner pen to outline the edges. That way you can also correct mistakes when coloring. After you have finished your pattern, outline the birthday note.
Step #6 – Make a small ribbon
Use the rest of the green cardstock to make a small ribbon. Dimensions for a ribbon are 4 cm x 6 cm or 1.6″ x 2.3″. Cut a rectangle shape and then the upper corners of the ribbon. Use a small piece of the white cardstock and glue it on the ribbon to make a clip.
Step #7 – Finish your card
Finally, glue the ribbon in the upper right corner. Assess the best position so that everything makes a good composition.
I like simplicity and this card is just a perfect example. Elegant and gorgeous. Although it looks a bit complicated to make, it really isn’t. And you need just 30 minutes of your time to craft it.
